Mapping Methodology
The bore location process can cost upwards of $2,000–$5,000 as a baseline figure, however the final cost will depend on the distance travelled to the property and the time taken to locate the required number of bores.
Please allow 4-6 weeks for the following steps to take place when making your bore site booking.
If your property is larger than five hectares, we require a topographical map of the property 1:25,000 scale with the property boundary highlighted. It is critical for Phi’on to obtain the coordinates of the property boundary.
Once the topographical map has been received, the appropriate magnetic, radiometric, aerial and satellite maps will be generated. These maps will be used during the bore siting process. These maps will be emailed to you once Robert has checked the details.
Topographical maps can be obtained online or from your local agencies. The hardcopy map should be mailed to Robert Gourlay, PO Box 132, Braidwood NSW 2622, or electronic versions should be emailed to bookings@phion.com.au.
Once the groundwater maps are completed (normally within 1-2 weeks) a copy of each map will be emailed to you, and a phone consultation with Robert will be organised to discuss the map outcomes and potential bore locations.
At this stage you can request a bore location report, however this is an additional cost and will be included in the final invoice after the bore(s) are located on your property.
If you request bores to be located following the phone consultation, Robert will visit your property to brief you on the best groundwater bore sites, and then dowse and locate the bore sites based on the agreed or preferred sites.
Each bore site can take 20-40 minutes to complete, including assessment of the bore prospectivity (depths to water, potential volumes of flow and water quality).
These details are normally recorded by the client and then emailed to Robert Gourlay (rob@phion.com.au) if a report is requested. The client is advised to mark each bore site with a steel peg and take a photograph of the site location.
A normal siting will involve 5–8 maps.
These maps will be invoiced once they have been emailed to you.
The professional fee covers administration and organisation of mapping, bore location booking and phone consultation, organisation of the travel and accommodation (if required).
The time required for a small- to medium-sized farm would be approximately 2–4 hours. This would include an initial discussion and plan to site the bores, followed by the onsite dowsing to select 2–4 potential drilling sites.
*If Rob is required to spend over six hours on site (larger properties) a daily rate of $1650 will be charged.
from Mongarlowe NSW to the site and return (includes fuel and meal costs). It is company policy that if Robert cannot return to his home by nightfall, then overnight accommodation may be required.
We ask that if flights are required, they are paid for at the time of booking.
Overnight accommodation may be required if the travel cannot be completed in daylight hours.

Once the booking for a site visit by Robert has been completed, a confirmation email will be sent to you. We require a minimum of 48 hours-notice for cancellation or rescheduling.
The first invoice will be forwarded to you once the groundwater maps have been emailed to you.
The second invoice for the booking fee, phone and on-site consultation, travel and associated costs will be forwarded to you after the bore siting has been completed. If you do not proceed with the bore siting, you will be invoiced for the mapping and any preliminary consultancy only.
Payment can be made via credit card (over the phone), cheque, or direct deposit, as detailed in the Phi’on invoice.
